Frequently Asked Questions

What are the advantages of the Calilou system?

The advantage is that you retain both the compactness of each single stroller (for storing them in a trunk, closet, or stairwell) and their independent function when it comes to separating children (for example, when going to the doctor).

Another advantage of a side-by-side double stroller is its maneuverability when navigating obstacles such as curbs, unlike a tandem double stroller. The latter are also often long and difficult to fit into small elevators. Whereas with a stroller system that can be converted back into single strollers whenever you want, everything is much more practical.

Is it easy to use?

Yes, no force is needed. The magnets in the connectors are powerful enough to ensure a secure connection. And when you want to disconnect the two strollers, simply slide the magnets by moving one stroller forward and the other backward.

Connecting and disconnecting the strollers takes just one second.

What should I do if I encounter a narrow passage?

The width of the connected double stroller allows you to navigate most urban obstacles.

If you do encounter a narrow passage, simply disconnect the two strollers, place them in single file to pass the obstacle, and then reconnect them.

Is my stroller compatible?

The list of compatible strollers is available on the product page of each connector. We recommend using Calilou connectors with identical stroller models, as frame designs can vary significantly between different models, even within the same brand.

Is it secure?

The connectors are strong enough to handle cobblestones and curb climbs. However, they are only a driving aid; you must always keep your hands on the handlebars and maintain control of the stroller.

The only situation in which the connectors may disconnect—and this is normal behavior—is when one of the strollers is not at the same level or on the same slope as the other. Example: one is on flat ground, while the other is on a slope. This is rare, but it can happen.

Handling the strollers—whether connected or disconnected—remains your responsibility at all times. Please refer to your strollers’ user manual.

Can I take it on a plane?

Yes, many Calilou users have taken our connectors all over the world. The stroller might occasionally trigger an alarm when going through security gates, but it's nothing that would cause problems for the ticket inspectors.

If your compact stroller fits in the cabin, two separate ones also fit, making it the only double stroller system to fit in the cabin.

Can I reverse with the connected double stroller?

Reversing is not recommended, as there is a risk of the wheels locking up. If this happens, disconnect the strollers, turn them back in the direction of travel, and reconnect them. Always prioritize a quick U-turn over reversing. The absence of a reverse function is a compromise that allows for a reduced distance between the wheels, thus keeping the width of the connected double stroller to a minimum.
